Oom Chris gone but not forgotten

Fellow residents of the Max Ordman Deaf Association (Moda) had a braai to celebrate the life of Chris Dormehl in Lombardy East on March 26. Born Christiaan Frederick Dormehl, Chris or Oom Chris as he was known to those close to him was a resident of Moda since May 2018.

Moda is located at Rand Aid Association’s Thembalami Care Centre. During his time at Moda, Chris made many good friends who were keen to bid him a proper farewell after he died on March 10, shortly after his 85th birthday on January 10.

Reverend Jaco van Wyk of Effata for the Deaf conducted a service for Oom Chris, who had been a long-time friend of his. The service was streamed live, which allowed friends and family from afar to participate.

Chris’s son Andre and a close family friend, Sharron Richards, donated meat and enough was prepared so all of Thembalami’s and Moda’s residents could enjoy braai meat, pap and sauce for lunch.
