Bone marrow registry aims to raise R250k
The SABMR’s first big fund-raising event of the year kicks off on March 31 with a Charity Golf Day at the Houghton Golf Club.
Last year’s ban on physical events due to the pandemic has had a devastating impact on the South African Bone Marrow Registry’s (SABMR) ability to raise funds. The organisation hopes to make up the lost income this year and is appealing to the public for donations.
The SABMR’s first big fund-raising event of the year kicks off on March 31 with a Charity Golf Day at the Houghton Golf Club. All proceeds will go towards its Patient Assistance Programme, which provides financial assistance to families who cannot afford the cost of finding a suitable donor for their bone marrow transplants.
A limited 80 spots are available and tee off will start at noon sharp. Twenty four-balls have been made available at a cost of R5 000 per team, which includes drinks on arrival, lunch, watering holes, three-course dinner, an auction, goodie bag filled with exclusive gifting and will conclude with the prize-giving.

Actor and long-time supporter of the SABMR Frank Rautenbach will participate as a player and will take on the duties of MC for the auction. Auction items include but are not limited to sports memorabilia, exclusive holidays, lifestyle vouchers and hampers.
The SABMR hopes to raise R250 000 through the event. The registry relies heavily on donations from the public and corporates to continue the lifesaving work it does. Corporates and individuals have until March 26 to book their spots.
