The BCPF and its role

The CPF is officially recognised by the South African Police Service.

The Community Police Forum (CPF) in Bedfordview fulfils a vital role in the community by assisting law-enforcement officials in the fight against crime.

The CPF is officially recognised by the South African Police Service. The SAPS Act 68 of 1995 legislated the CPF as the only recognised consultative forum designed to permit communities to make their policing concerns known to the police.

The Bedfordview CPF:

• Is not affiliated nor aligned to any political party and is purely there to facilitate conduit between the SAPS and the community.
• Addresses complaints against the police on behalf of the community and against criminal elements in a particular community on behalf of policing partners.
• Builds communication and problem-solving channels between all policing partners and the community.
• Has installed and monitors a large network of Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras in Bedfordview, largely funded by the community. These cameras can actively track wanted or stolen vehicles and assist in investigations to help curb crime in Bedfordview.
• Has an extensive network of WhatsApp emergency groups covering the three Bedfordview sectors in addition to the individual street groups. This enables residents to get help fast. Be it armed response, medical or otherwise. These groups are monitored by the CPF, together with the active security companies in the area, ensuring that you get the help required when you need it most.
• Produces safety plans from reported police statistics, as well as community needs and complaints regarding crime hot spots and suspicious activities.
• Plans and participates in anti-crime exercises which are determined by the community’s complaints.
• Facilitate safety and security meetings between the community and law enforcement entities.
• Ensures the efficient and appropriate service delivery of safety and security to the community of Bedfordview.
