School rugby community and Jeppe Boys mourn Muzi

“Muzi will be remembered most by those who knew him for his humility, warm smile, positive disposition, calm leadership and love of his school.”

Jeppe High School for Boys released a statement this afternoon expressing the school community’s shock and sadness after learning about the death of former head boy (2018) Muzi Manyike.

He was last seen in November 2020 which was followed by a three-month search. It was announced earlier today that his body had been identified on Monday.

The cause of death is unknown.

“Whilst the loss of any member of the Jeppe family is always tragic, the passing of Muzi, at such a young age and with so much still to give, is heartbreaking,” the school stated.

“Whilst an incredibly talented sportsman, Muzi will be remembered most by those who knew him for his humility, warm smile, positive disposition, calm leadership and love of his school. Our deepest condolences to the Manyike family, his classmates and all in the broader Jeppe community on the tragic passing of such a wonderful, and inspiring, young man.”

Muzi was known as a talented rugby player, captain of the Jeppe first team, was SA Schools skipper and had been contracted by the Golden Lions.
