Intelligence-driven operations lead to multiple arrests

“All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon.”

The lifeless body of a man in his late 20s was uncovered next to Stanley Road, Primrose, by SAPS members on October 17.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, police officers were raiding an illegal tavern in the area when they heard gunshots nearby.

“As the law officials responded they found a man, shot in the upper body.

“The officers took over the scene,” said Mokheseng.

Mokheseng added illegally operated taverns in the Makause informal settlement were raided by the EMPD Germiston North Precinct, Southern Region First Response officers and SAPS members following numerous complaints of loud music.

“It was found the owners operated without permits.

“Eighteen crates of beer and ciders were seized and four male pub owners between the ages of 24 and 43 were apprehended for contravening the Liquor Act,” said the officer.

The EMPD spokesperson added another arrest of a 45-year-old man took place at 4pm in Edenvale.

He was found with 40 packets of khat, one pack and two ziploc bags of crystal meth valued at R360 000, following an intensified four- hour surveillance by the EMPD Anti-Drugs Squad.

He was taken to Edenvale Police Station.

“The suspect and potential drug supplier, is facing charges of possession and dealing in illicit substance, falsifying official documents and other charges relating to the Immigrants Act.

“All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon,” said Mokheseng.
