New motto for Thornhill Manor

Rand Aid retirement village Thornhill Manor is set to live up to its new motto with the appointment of chairperson Dr Dave Webster.

Rand Aid retirement village Thornhill Manor is set to live up to its new motto with the appointment of chairperson Dr Dave Webster.

Coined by Dave, the village has incorporated the motto that “people matter here” in its day-to-day running.

The committee decided the phrase would be a great motto as it captures the essence of what the residents and staff deem important – the residents.

“The motto is in line with Eden Alternative principles, which the village and staff are very passionate about,” said deputy village manager Jackie Scott.

The Eden Alternative is a small, not-for-profit global organisation making a big difference in the world.

The core belief is that ageing should be a continued stage of development and growth, rather than a period of decline.

Rand Aid’s Ron Smith Care Centre recently became the first organisation in Africa to achieve milestone two on the Eden Alternative Registry.

The Eden Alternative philosophy is being rolled out at all Rand Aid retirement villages and care centres.
In line with the “people matter here” approach, Thornhill Manor’s village committee decided to issue a monthly newsletter called the Gazette.

It will contain news about the residents’ successes, achievements, challenges and ideas.

The Gazette will complement the weekly and monthly newsletters compiled by the village’s management team.
