R2 000 up for grabs in writing competition

The competition is open to writers from all over South Africa.

The South African Writers’ Circle (SAWC) has launched is 60th anniversary writing competition.

The competition is open to writers from all over South Africa.

Those wanting to enter are required to write an original fiction story of no more than 3 000 words illustrating changes in societal and/or literary norms between the 1960s and the present.

Politics are specifically excluded.

Closing date for entries is September 30.

The winner will walk away with R2 000, while the runner-up will receive R1 000. Third place will get R500.

The entry fee for the competition is R50 for members and R100 for non-members.

The fee for non-members will include SAWC membership for the balance of 2020.

Simultaneous and multiple entries are allowed.

The entry fee must be paid and separate entry form completed for each separate entry.

To enter the competition:

  • Read the competition and submission rules and guidelines on www.sawriters.org.za
  • Download and complete a competition entry form.
  • Email the form and proof of payment with your entry to competitions.sawc@gmail.com
  • Follow up if you don’t receive an acknowledgement email within a week.

Winners will be announced and all entrants advised within four weeks of the closing date.

Each entry will be professionally judged.
