Bedfordview SAPS is focusing on the implementation of curfew and the selling of alcohol.

Capt André de Jager, Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, said the station is enforcing level three regulations as stipulated by government.

“We are policing the curfew from 9pm to 4am and also the selling and transporting of liquor,” he said.

“Arrests will be made if residents are found with these prohibited items.

“Common robberies are still at a high level and we continue to police this.”

De Jager said residents should not openly walk around with valuables.

“Women walking in malls with handbags will result in criminals grabbing these items.

“Be vigilant, this way you are combating crime yourself by not making yourself a target,” he said.

Concerning social visits and permits to move, he said residents must provide a valid reason for permission to be granted.

“Residents should not come to the station requesting a permit to move between provinces for something non-essential as checking on your second homes or its tenants.

“This qualifies as social visits. We will, however, assist any resident to the best of our abilities to see if we can approve the permit or not.

“You need to have valid proof as to why you are travelling long distances. We, as a station, have to manage the permits appropriately and accordingly.

“Residents need to understand the purpose of permits is to curb the pandemic,” said de Jager.

On the matter of recent restaurant protests in Bedfordview, he said the SAPS was present and made sure everything ran smoothly.

“All the role players were involved; we all had meetings prior to the protest.

“Everyone who participated knew the rules to follow and adhered to it.”

De Jager said there is a process to follow in organising a protest.

Once the application is approved, a plan of action is drawn up.

“If there is a future protest in the area, we will know about it and deal with it accordingly,” he said.
