Hijacked truck load recovered in Denver

Police nab four men for alleged truck hijacking in joint operation.

The Ekurhuleni Central Crime Intelligence Unit, acting on a tip-off, arrested four men in Denver in connection with the alleged hijacking of a truck on November 21.

Police received information about a truck which was apparently offloading goods at an address at the corner of Main Reef Road and Ulysses Street in Cleveland.

Upon arrival, officers, together with the EMPD, raided the premises and uncovered computer equipment and a jamming device.

“Officers went to the truck yard and found a trailer with a container on it that was already half offloaded as well as pallets full of computer printer equipment next to it. A large jammer was also confiscated,” said spokesperson of Cleveland SAPS Capt Johan Jordaan.

“Four men who were found offloading goods at the scene were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.”

Jordaan said the truck was en route to Johannesburg from Durban when it was hijacked in Randfontein.

“Investigations have revealed that laptops were offloaded at an unknown location before the truck was later parked in Denver to offload the rest of the equipment,” said Jordaan.

“The estimated value of the goods was about R5-million, which was later handed back to the owners.”
