Glenoaks Remedial School donates two wheelchairs

Miss Vinokur will donate the wheelchairs to people living with a disability.

Mrs Adina Feldman (42) is a grade 2 teacher and has been working at Glenoaks Remedial School for almost two years now.

She started an initiative in November last year, whereby her and children at the school collect plastic bottle tops which are recycled and the money is then used to buy wheelchairs for people who are less fortunate.

“I was approached by Judy Katzel with the idea and she asked me if I could get the children to collect bottle tops. You need 450kg bottle tops to get a wheelchair.

“After collecting bottle tops, it then goes to Inter-Waste where it is recycled and the money generated is used to buy wheelchairs,” said Mrs Feldman.

They managed to collect enough bottle tops to donate two wheelchairs to those less fortunate and Mrs Feldman believes in giving and making a difference in someone’s life.

They hope to donate more wheelchairs by collecting more bottle tops.

“It is something so small that everyone could do. It benefits the person who is getting the wheelchair and it also benefits the environment,” said Mrs Feldman.

On May 20, the school hosted an assembly in the school hall where they handed over two wheelchairs.

The wheelchairs were handed over to Miss Michelle Vinokur who is part of Chazak Charity Foundation.

Miss Vinokur will donate them to people living with a disability.
