Jeppe High School for Girls to enjoy 92nd flower show

Many find they have a natural talent and enjoy expressing themselves in this creative medium.

Jeppe High School for Girls will celebrate its 92nd flower show this year on February 28 and 29.

The flower show is one of the school’s traditions and each girl in the school takes part and is encouraged to unleash her creative and imaginative skills.

Apart from a demonstration to Grade Eight learners, the girls are not given any formal instruction in the art of flower arranging.

Many find they have a natural talent and enjoy expressing themselves in this creative medium.

Girls are encouraged to enter as many of the categories of the show as possible. There are up to 2 000 arrangements submitted each year.

The seniors, Grades 10 to 12, can enter two to three homegrown blooms or choose from categories which include Symphony in Glass, Tropical Paradise, Succulent Splendour and Paper Power, using paper flowers.

The categories for the juniors, Grade Eight and Nine, include Celebrating the Gerbera Daisy: Flower of the Year 2020, Something out of Nothing, Board Games, Lemon Zest, Treasures from the Shoreline, Shades of Green, Arrangement in a Teacup and Magnificent Monsters.

Every arrangement is judged and the girls are awarded points for their houses.

The judges are drawn from people who have been connected to the school and particularly to the flower show or people in the flower and garden business.

Jeppe old girls can get involved in a special way this year by visiting the school on February 27 and arranging their flowers at the school any time between 3.30pm and 8pm.

The flower show is open to the public from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on February 28 and from 8am to 12.30pm on February 29.

For more information phone the school on 011 616 5090.
