City appoints 50 new firefighters

Newly appointed firefighters welcomed by DEMS executive manager operations at the Bedfordview Fire Station.

The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) announced 50 new firefighters will be appointed at different fire stations across the city.

This was announced at an induction ceremony at the Bedfordview Fire Station recently.

DEMS district manager for media liaison and emergency services William Ntladi said the appointments are due to vacancies created by promotions and resignations.

“The city has filled the empty vacancies by absorbing department`s reserve force members on permanent positions.

“They were all given their rank markings and welcomed by executive manager of operations Lifty Ngoepe, standing in for the divisional head of Emergency Services Mhlengi Makhubalo,” said Nltladi

He said the new firefighters has undergone induction and orientation processes.

“With these new appointees, the division will be able to fast-tract the services rendered to the community.”
