Bizos honoured with a birthday ceremony at Saheti

Saheti School hosted a ceremony on November 15 in honour of Advocate George Bizo's 92nd birthday.

Advocate George Bizos, one of Saheti School’s founders and life vice-president of the Saheti School board, was honoured by staff, learners and family with a special ceremony for his 92nd birthday at the school on November 15.

The ceremony began with a prayer and a warm welcome by the Saheti head prefects.

Grade Four learners then sang the Greek song To Thalassiono Trifili and Grade Seven learners spoke about the lessons they had learned from Bizos.

Grade Five learners then proceeded to sing a Zulu Song Siyakubingelela Mnumzane Bizos in honour of Bizos.

A Greek dance, Rouga-Corfu, was also performed by Grade Three learners.

Saheti head prefects presented Bizos with a birthday cake, with everyone singing an English and Greek rendition of the happy birthday song.

Executive headmaster Warwick Taylor presented Bizos with a birthday gift from Saheti School.

Past Saheti learner and grandchild of Bizos Nicolas Bizos also gave a speech at the ceremony.

He said his grandfather was instrumental in giving Greek representation a platform at Saheti School.

“Love for the Greek culture, without the exclusivity, is what Saheti and my grandfather is all about,” said Nicolas.

He said with his grandfather’s sacrifices many have gained.

“As your grandchild, I couldn’t be more proud of you,” said Nicolas.

The South African political activist turned 92 on November 14.
