#IMadeMyMark: Nothing will stop caregivers and nurses from voting

While most workers will be off on May 8, caregivers and nurses will be working.

Although some intend to forfeit their vote, Edenvale caregivers and nurses will vote regardless of their work constraints.

Careworker Doris Lesese says despite duty challenges, she will cast her vote.

Site manager and staff nurse Florence Selemela, and care worker Doris Lesese from Little Eden Society in Edenvale, said it becomes a challenge to vote and still fulfil the duties of caregivers and nurses.

“Our profession makes it challenging. People still need our help,” said Florence.

She believes her vote counts and is adamant she will cast her vote on May 8.

She first voted in 1999 and has since voted in every election.

For Doris voting comes with its own challenges.

She said caregivers who are on duty on Election Day, don’t have enough time to vote.

Despite this, she too will be sure to vote this year.

Doris, like most elderly South Africans, made her first mark in 1994.

She encouraged young people to ensure they cast their votes.

Nicolette Muthige, public relations and communications officer of Little Eden Society, said workers will be given 30 minutes more this year to get home and vote on Election Day.
