Who is responsible?

It’s totally unacceptable and time the ratepayers went on strike and stopped paying our taxes.

EDITOR – Please can you assist me with my complaints about the potholes in Edenvale and to get heard by the municipality.

A DA representative suggested that I should make a noise through the newspaper to alert the municipality of what they don’t do around the town, but still have the nerve to keep charging rates and taxes to loyal ratepayers.

Firstly, the attempts at tarring the roads down Seventh and First avenues are great, but for heaven’s sake is it rocket science to clean up after your project?

Why is there a mountain of old tar on the pavement of the magistrate court and police station in Edenvale, and no sign of any removal of it?

Secondly, our gutters and curbs are a disgrace.

The pavements are a mess and weeds grow on the once beautifully paved walkways.

When the curbs are cut with lawnmowers, they cut and rip papers in the grass.

Surely it would be better to pick up the litter before cutting the grass?

The grass on the curbs just gets left to grow and I cannot understand why they don’t weed eat this away.

If you are in Durban, Johannesburg or Benoni, the same applies, grass and weeds grow in the road.

I tried to understand why this is happening and came to the conclusion that if you never sweep the curbs and drainage path along the roads, then sand accumulates and is the perfect place for weeds and grass to grow.

I have spoken to council workers who told me it’s not in the contract of parks department to cut the grass that grows in the gutter.

Well, who is responsible for this overgrowth?

Soon grass will cover our roads, this will cause a drainage problem when it rains.

Additionally, the drains are blocked and never serviced

I am probably one of many people who notices this mess but nothing changes or gets done.

It’s totally unacceptable, and time the ratepayers went on strike and stopped paying our taxes.

Perhaps this could be a wonderful subject for the NEWS in the near future.

Wendy Marder,
