LATEST: Dispute over taxi route leads to CLOSURE of Modderfontein Road

According to Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso from Sebenza SAPS, the dispute is a misunderstanding which she hopes to clarify later this morning when the two associations meet.

A dispute between the P91 (Modderfontein Road) taxi route lead to the complete closure of Modderfontein Road this morning.

Frustrated motorists making use of the route reported delays of up to 30 minutes.

The road has since been reopened and traffic is flowing freely.

According to Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso from Sebenza SAPS, the dispute is a misunderstanding which she hopes to clarify later this morning when the two associations meet.

“The misunderstanding is over the P91 route. Passengers board taxis in Tembisa and travel to Alexandra. TATA’s permit allows drivers to drop passengers off at Greenstone Shopping Centre and Edenvale Hospital. LTA is refusing this and say TATA drivers must take passengers from Tembisa straight to Alexandra.

“Representatives from LTA say that the drivers from TATA should not drop off or pick up anyone up along this particular route. The drivers from TATA also claim that LTA drivers stop them and take their passengers off the taxis and they are fed-up. TATA drivers closed the road as a means of protest against the behaviour of drivers from LTA,” she said.
