Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir presents ‘Songs for Janet’

Jonathan Botha, Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir director said that Janet Swart was the director of the choir by from 1997 to 2012.

Songs for Janet was a concert held in honour of Arbor Village resident and previous director of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir Janet Swart, on November 25 at Arbor Village.

Jonathan Botha, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir director, said that Swart was the director of the choir from 1997 to 2012.

“Most of the current choir members sang with Swart, including myself,” said Botha.

Botha said that he was a boy soprano under Swart’s directorship when he attended St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Jeppestown.

He was under her guide again later as a bass in Jeppe High School for Boys’ Choir.

“Many Arbor Village residents attended and were enthusiastic in their praise. It was a wonderful concert,” said Botha.

Denise Stanton, Arbor Village manager, said Swart is the choir mistress at Arbor Village.

“As choir mistress, Swart has been an important part of Arbor Village’s choir. With her enthusiasm for music, our choir has grown from strength to strength.

“We are extremely lucky to have a resident like Swart at Arbor,” said Stanton.
