South African businesses acknowledged at 16th Annual Business Awards
Stor-Age walk away with the top honour of National Business of the Year for 2018 and Ericsson South Africa won both the Innovation Through Technology and Digital Company of the Year awards.
The 16th Annual National Business Awards, held at Emperors Palace on November 15, saw Stor-Age walk away with the top honour of National Business of the Year for 2018.

Runner-up in this prestigious category was Woolworths Holdings.

This award goes to the company that best demonstrates excellence in all spheres of the general criteria (people, planet, profit) and the management thereof.
Individual awards saw Zama Phakathi from Splendid Marketing and Communications walk away with the Top Young Executive of the Year Award and Avesh Pillay from Fibon Energy winning the Top Performing Entrepreneur Award.

The Top Performing Business Leader of the Year Award was won by Natasha Reuben from Dell Computers.
Coega Development Corporation won the Top Performing Public Service Award.

Winners in the organisation awards category were:
- Corporate Citizenship Award – Adcock Ingram.
- Customer Focus Award – FedEx Express South Africa.
- Sustainability Award – Mpact.
- Fast Growth Award – Lemac Group SA.
- Diversity in the Workplace – Accenture South Africa.
Ericsson South Africa won both the Innovation Through Technology and Digital Company of the Year awards.
The winners in the sector awards were:
- Mining Oil and Gas – FFS Refiners.
- Transport and Logistics – Savino Del Bene.
- Education, Training and Skills Development – The Skills Development Corporation.
- Infrastructure Development and Maintenance – SMEC South Africa.
- Business Solutions Award – Webhelp South Africa.
The evening’s keynote speaker was chief executive officer for Business Leadership South Africa, Bonang Mohale, who received a standing ovation from business representatives.

Guest speakers were Willem Baars, the managing director of Investment Banking Goldman Sachs as well as Google South Africa’s head of marketing Asha Patel who spoke about Google’s role in Africa.
The 2018 entries were judged by Gareth Cliff, founder and president of CliffCentral.com; Tollo Nkosi, CEO of Umso Construction; Thulani Nzima, CEO of SA Tourism; Angel Jones, CEO of Homecoming Revolution; Cynthia Schoeman, managing director of Ethics Monitoring and Management Services Proprietary; Xolisa Menemene, founder and CEO of Xolisa Menemene Radiographers; Mickey Mashale, chief officer enterprise sales at Vodacom Groups across sub-Saharan African Region; Lerato Kelly Masete, regional executive at SAICA; Nthabeleng Likotsi, executive chairman at Young Women in Business Network; Bridget Mokwena-Halala, CEO of Assupol Lifef; Nargis Gani, owner and CEO of Future Africa Consulting; Colin Leshou, provincial manager of Seda Gauteng; Hennie Heymans, CEO of DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa; Phillip Tshikotshi, associate vice president and head of HR at Aegis Outsourcing SA and Siphiwe Ngwenya, former CEO of Gauteng Growth and Development Agency.
