Use water sparingly during high termperatures

“Saving water in periods such as these, is critical and individual efforts do make a difference,”

With the recent rise in temperatures, Rand Water has urged community members to use water sparingly.

Media relations manager for Rand Water Justice Mohale said the recent heatwave in several provinces resulted in high demand and has placed a strain on the bulk water supply network.

“Saving water in periods such as these is critical and individual efforts do make a difference,” said Mohale.

Water saving tips found on Rand Water’s Water Wise website include;

• Watering dry spots individually rather than watering a large area.

• Turning off sprinklers or irrigation systems before puddles start to pool.

• Changing automatic sprinklers’ watering times according to the current season.

• Checking for water leaks at water connections regularly.

• To report any leaks or to repair them.

• Watering gardens in the early morning or late afternoon.

• To water large plants or trees individually for longer periods of time but less often.

Additional water saving tips published by the NEWS online in 2017 include;

• Taking shorter showers.

• Turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.

• To reuse grey water from bathrooms, kitchens and washing machines to flush the toilet.

• To rather wash dirty dishes all at once in the evening instead of individually washing dishes throughout the day.
