Sacred Heart College had a heritage celebration on September 21.
Learners dressed up in their traditional regalia to celebrate Heritage Day.
The day included drama, poetry, music and discussions around heritage and what it means.
“Parents facilitated the day bringing different topics for learners to discuss and hear what heritage means to the learners,” said Lynn Walker, marketing coordinator.

Itumeleng Mohanoe focused on music and discussed ‘how American pop culture in music influences young people’.
André Croucamp and Nigel Branken tackled nationhood and heritage.
Nonhlanhla Masanabo facilitated a debate on heritage in a film.
Learners deconstructed the movie, Black Panther from an African heritage point of view.
Learners shared their views of how the film can influence how people view Africa.

The day sparked a number of conversations between learners and teachers.
“It’s important to have such discussions with our children because we live in a diverse country. Knowing about our heritage allows us to know our identity,” said Croucamp.
