With the launch of the #Give Responsibly campaign community members are reminded to give donations to established organisations and charities.
The campaign was launched three weeks ago by Child Welfare – SA, Bedfordview Community Police Forum and residents.
Stake holders encouraged community members to be responsible while giving money or other donations to beggars at intersections.
Several suggested charities, which community members can donate to, were included in the August 29 edition of the NEWS announcing the campaign.

One of the organisations is Edenvale-based Khanyisa Trust.
The trust has been providing daily meals to the less fortunate for the past 27 years.
Volunteers from the trust and surrounding churches make and provide meals to 120 people.
Manager of the trust, Dipuo Tekana, said it tries to help where it can.
“We also give those who come to us donations of non-perishable, clothing and blankets,” said Dipuo.
In addition to distributing donations amongst the community’s less fortunate the trust assists those trying to find employment.
“If people are looking for work we help them find jobs with companies in the area.”
She said this is done by creating a database of job seekers.
“When companies approach the trust we show them the database,” said Dipuo.
“We have a list of general workers, skilled workers and unskilled workers.”

Community members can donate new or secondhand clothes, shoes and blankets to the trust.
Donations of vegetables, tinned food, beans, rice, samp and any other edibles will be used in the soup kitchen.
“If community members are unable to make donations they can lend a hand in the soup kitchen and give us their time,” said Dipou.
