#CrimeStats: Edenvale murder rate up by 133%, hijacking down by 20%

Robbery at business premises remained unchanged with 48 cases reported.

The number of murder cases in Edenvale increased by 133 per cent according to the national SAPS crime statistics released earlier today.

In the 2016/2017 period three cases of murder was reported to Edenvale SAPS, while over the period of 2017/2018 the number increased to seven.

Sexual offences investigated by the Edenvale SAPS increased by 7.1 per cent from 14 to 15.

Hijacking and residential robbery decreased by 20 per cent and 11.4 per cent respectively in the 2017/2018 period.

Robbery at business premises remained unchanged with 48 cases reported over the 2016/2017 period and the 2017/2018 period.

Cases of malicious damage to property increased by 61.2 per cent from 67 cases in the 2016/2017 period to 108 cases in the 2017/2018 period.

Notably, 73.7 more arrests were made for the illegal possession of firearms with 33 cases in the 2017/2018 period.

The number of arrests for motorists driving under the influence of alcohol also increased by 11.4 per cent with 342 cases reported in the 2017/2018 period.
