Thornhill Manor had reason to celebrate on April 26, they even had the perfect place in which to hold the celebration too.

After all, they were toasting their newly renovated village hall, which is now a wonderful venue to hold functions.

A serving kitchen was added, the existing kitchen was extended, storerooms were built on, and the ablutions were given a fresh new look.

“Loads of planning, designing and involvement by the village chairperson, Dave Webster, went into the project,” said Thornhill Manor manager Esmé Erasmus.

“Dave consulted widely with stakeholders to establish exactly what renovations were needed. The transformation has been very well received,” added Esmé.

“Some wondered how we coped before the renovations. The two monthly Sundowner meals have now moved to the hall and are better attended than ever before.

“The kitchen was not user-friendly; Christmas functions were difficult to arrange in terms of the décor, entertainment, serving of meals and the clearing away of dishes. Storage was also a huge problem,” she said.

During the renovations, extra ablutions and a snooker room were also built. The retirement village has introduced a snooker league and tournaments are held every two weeks.

“There are six other retirement villages involved, with six members to a team and games are played at home and away. We now have over 20 residents, both male and female, who are actively playing snooker,” said Esmé.

The final touches to the renovations were new curtains that were hung in both the hall and village chapel.
