Bedfordview Domestic Watch spreads awareness

She assures the community that they are not alone, and that help is there for anyone that is in need.

A Domestic Watch meeting was held at the Bedfordview Methodist Church on April 24.

The lesson was on drugs, alcohol and taverns.

Penny Steyn and Reamogetswe NPO’s Stanley Ntombela hosted this course to a full house.

Ntombela’s NPO helps the elderly in every way they can by means of feeding schemes, clothing and basic care.

Steyn and Ntombela started the lesson by engaging with the community through song and dance.

Steyn granted those in attendance an opportunity to ask questions about drugs and alcohol and then allowed them to speak about some of the issues that they face in their personal lives.

She connected with the audience by sharing her personal experiences with drugs and alcohol and how that affected her.

Steyn is a motivational speaker who addresses the issues in a light-hearted and honest tone.

“I assure you that you are not alone and help is there for anyone that is in need,” said Steyn.

She provided tips about what you need to know about drugs and what the common names are, what to do if you identify a drug user and how to inform the police about it.

She also discussed how drugs can lead to crime.

Steyn said more supporters are needed to continue the work done by the Domestic Watch.

“I need support to continue spreading awareness,” said Steyn.

She has a number of DVDs and other material on all the lessons she has given throughout her career.

Steyn welcomes all employers, domestic workers and gardeners to the Domestic Watch lessons.

She also welcomes any voluntary assistance.

The next meeting will be held on May 30 at the Bedfordview Methodist Church at 2pm.
