Ngcobo takes top spot at annual marathon in Edenvale

Thando Ngcobo finished the marathon in 2:31:31.

Thousands of runners of all ages took to the streets when they recently participated in the Pharmaton Edenvale Marathon.

Winner of the 42.2 km marathon Thando Ngcobo makes his way to the finish line while supporters cheer him on.

The annual marathon and qualifier for the Comrades Marathon, hosted by Edenvale Rand Road Warriors, was held on March 10 at Edenvale High School (EHS).

On the day 5000 runners participated in a 42.2 km marathon, a 21.1 km half-marathon as well as a 10km and 5km fun run.

Runners set off for for the Pharmaton Edenvale Marathon.

The runners started their journey on Linksfield Road, made their way through Edenvale and finished their routes at EHS.

The routes saw participants running through the Edenvale area.

Jackie Allen, a volunteer for the marathon, said the day went well and was enjoyed by all.

Professor Ncube takes his last few strides for the 42.2km marathon. He placed second in the race.

The top three runners of the marathon were:

• Thando Ngcobo (2:31:31).

• Professor Ncube (2:35:33).

• Siyabonga Dingile (2:36:03).

The top three runners for the half-marathon were:

• Donald Mashamaite (1:09:35).

• Derocious Makhobalo (1:10:55).

• Tlou Peu (1:11:24)

The top three runners for the 10km run were:

• Phillimon Mathiba (33:34).

• Thabang Mafa (34:11).

• Tshepiso Khati (35:06).

There were no results for the 5km run.
