Man arrested by Edenvale SAPS for assaulting police officers

"Members of the public are warned not to obstruct police officers from performing their duties."

Edenvale SAPS arrested a man for assaulting a police officer on Saturday night.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jean Olckers, said during routine patrols at about 6.45pm, two officers noticed several men drinking in public and stopped.

“While addressing the drinking issue, one man started verbally abusing the officers and then assaulted the one officer.”

Olckers said the policemen called for back-up due to the crowd becoming “threatening and rowdy”.
The a man, who is a foreign national and in his 30’s, was arrested.

“Members of the public are warned not to obstruct police officers from performing their duties. Police officers are warned not to be disrespectful to our community and vice versa our community must also not be disrespectful to the police officers. All citizens including foreigners must respect the laws of our land,” said Olckers.
