The funds were raised through donations from the community from October to January.

“We rely heavily on donations from the community to remain open.”

Marita said it costs Edenvale SPCA R1.5-million a year to operate.

The Dogs Dinner Fund started over 15 years ago when a community member wanted to help animals over the festive season.

Edenvale SPCA manager Marita Acar and inspector Jade Nel are grateful for the R139 343 raised by the community through the Dogs Dinner Fund.

It has since become an annual tradition.

Donations made to the fund are used for general running costs, veterinary bills, petrol, cleaning products and maintenance of the property.
