CRIME STATS: Edenvale – 351 burglaries and a 200% increase in murder cases

Robberies including common, business and residential increased by between 33.3 per cent and 43.8 per cent.

351 cases of residential burglary and a 200 per cent increase in murder cases were reported in the national SAPS crime stats for Edenvale precinct for the period April 2016 to March 2017.

These were not the only crimes which showed a marked increase when compared to the previous period.

Robberies including common, business and residential increased by between 33.3 per cent and 43.8 per cent.

13 more cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were reported when compared to the previous year.

The SAPS also reported a 28.9 per cent increase in common assault cases.

Overall there was a 28.1 per cent increase in contact crimes or crimes against a person while sexual offence crimes decreased by 17.6 per cent.

Car hijacking decreased by 12.3 per cent from 57 cases to 50.

There were also 47.2 percent less arrests made for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Edenvale.
