Swimmers make national squad

St Andrew’s School for Girls Grade 11 learners have been selected to Swimming South Africa’s (SSA) National Squad in the Youth Division.

St Andrew’s School for Girls Grade 11 learners, Jenna Pearse and Lize-Mari de Beer, were selected for Swimming South Africa’s (SSA) National Squad in the Youth Division.

In accordance with the principles of Long Term Participant Development (LTPD), SSA introduced a squad system to provide additional support and exposure to promising swimmers.

Its objective is to increase the supply of swimming talent available for selection to the 2018 Commonwealth and 2020 Olympic Games.

As part of this development programme swimmers are also offered the opportunity to participate in self-funded international swimming tours.

Lize-Mari de Beer will join the South African contingent going to Hong Kong to participate in the World Cup series in October.

This opportunity will provide her with valuable exposure at an international level.

Both Jenna and Lize-Mari will start with their preparations for the Junior Commonwealth Trials at the end of the year leading up to Games in 2018.
