In this busy part of the season, the gymnasts have taken part in acrobatic competitions on July 22 and August 5, while the trampolinists took part in qualifying events on July 29 and August 12.

The competitions, some of which have been qualifying events for the annual SA Gymnastics Games, have been taking place in various parts of Johannesburg.

With the majority of the clubs’ gymnasts having achieved podium positions and in many cases won their events, the trampolinists now turn their attention to preparing for the SA Gymnastics Games, while the acrobats will compete in the qualifying regional and provincial events.

On August 5, high-performance trampolinist, Ethan Strydom, travelled to Port Elizabeth to take part in the national trials to represent South Africa in the World Age Group Competition.

While coming just short of the four allocated places, Ethan is next in line as the first reserve for the SA team.

This result is ahead of schedule in the plan for his qualification for the world event in 2018.

The gymnasts practise at the Highway Gardens Community Centre and are coached by the Demianenko family and assisted by Michelle Sharples and Kimona Moodley.

The acrobats and trampolinists are: Abigail Last, Lana Röttcher, Leira Ahmed, Yianni Livanos, Hayley Hubbard, Melina Themistocleous, Noah Parker, Ethan Kotlar, Ruby Crawley, Tatum De Oliveira, Holly Houseman, Chloe Gouws, Jorgina Liversage, Madison Carletti, Leyah Strydom, Madison Emerton, Damon Röttcher, Charlotte Morgan, Caitlin Howes, Hannah van der Vyver, Claire Thomas, Zandri Swanepoel, Samantha Robertson, Ethan Strydom, Keenen Hewson, Joshua Marais and Ryan Last.
