Edenvale set to light up again this year

EDENVALE - This year's festival lights will be switched on at 7pm on November 25 and will switched on until the first week of January.

Put on your party pants and get ready for this year’s Edenvale City Improvement District’s Festival of Lights.

The annual festival is to be held on November 25 in the Edenvale CBD, between Second and Fourth streets.

In 2016 the gypsy dancers performed for the residents.

This year’s festival lights will be switched on at 7pm on November 25 and will remain switched on until the first week of January.

Katy Young, ECID’s public relations officer and events co-ordinator, said this year’s festival aims to offer a variety of entertainment and showcase various cultures to the community.

 

Community members can look forward to live entertainment, traders, a beer garden, a restaurant garden and admission is free.

Some of the confirmed performances and activities include the Bambanani Brass Band, drum majorettes and a Santa’s Grotto.

Young said Razzmatazz will ensure costumed characters will be at the festival and this year’s event will focus on food.

“We hope to have a variety of cuisines available for the community to enjoy. The festival has grown each year. Last year we had 6 500 people and this year we are hoping for 10 000,” said Young.

She said because of the festival’s growth, security at this year’s event will be increased.

In the weeks building up to the festival, the NEWS will provide information on some of the artists who will be performing at the festival.

Young said she hopes to get more local musicians and talented individuals involved in this year’s festival.
