According to Bedfordview SAPS, cases of theft out of motor vehicles are on the rise in Bedfordview.
W/O Mduduzi Nhlabathi provided tips on how you can avoid becoming a victim of this crime:
- Always try and park in a well-lit area.
- Avoid leaving items such as cellphones, ipads, laptops etc. on your seat; valuables should be kept in the boot.
- Be cautious when approaching intersections and off-ramps because this is when culprits smash car windows.
- Always be aware and careful when parked outside schools, recreation centers, malls, gyms, church, restaurants as these are places where you are likely to become a victim.
- Physically check that your car doors are locked at all times.
Nhlabathi added that theft was everyone’s concern.
“Everyone should take part in their safety, residents should do their part and we’ll also do our part.”
