Big donation for Little Eden from runners, community upliftment project

"I urge businesses and individuals to get involved and donated money to Little Eden so that they can have a sustainable income"

On June 10, the Edenvale Rand Road Warriors (ERRW) held its annual post-Comrades Marathon “Aches and Pains” get together, in Edenvale.

ERRW runner, Tracy Farmer and ERRW chairperson Gareth Manson.

Vernon Cloete, founder of the Community Uplift Bedfordview and Edenvale initiative, and Gareth Manson, chairperson of the running club, revealed a special donation to Little Eden during the meeting.

Earlier this year, Cloete said he will donate R100 to Little Eden for every ERRW runner who completes the marathon. This totalled R3 800 but Cloete donated a generous R5 000.

The ERRW committee also raised R1 900 from all the runners who completed the race and Manson announced this amount would be increased to R5 000, thereby enabling them to hand over an amount of R10 000 to Little Eden.

Cloete said the money will not simply be donated to the society but rather invested so that the money can generate a small income for Little Eden.

“I urge businesses and individuals to get involved and donate funds to Little Eden so that they can have a sustainable income,” said Cloete.

Lesley Armstrong, who represented Little Eden, said the society greatly appreciated the donation.

The club’s Comrades stars also had their moment in the spotlight as Manson lauded their performances.

The ERRW’s best performers at this year’s Comrades were Deanan Naidoo (7:20:12) and Rachel Leijdekkers (8:45:52).
