Uber drivers protest on-going harassment

The drivers protested outside Eastgate Shopping Centre on Tuesday.

Following alleged on-going harassment, threats and intimidation from meter taxi drivers, Uber drivers took to the streets to protest.

The drivers protested outside Eastgate Shopping Centre on Tuesday.

It is believed that the drivers handed over a memorandum to the shopping centre management.

Darren Katz, MD of Excellerate Brand Management, who is the appointed provider for marketing of Eastgate, said they had been in contact with the head of Uber SA and a meeting had been arranged to determine a way forward.

Katz said Uber partners’ participation in the gathering was not endorsed by Uber.

“I can confirm those who attended the gathering at Eastgate are Uber partners who are independent contractors that provide transport services to the public.”

The NEWS is still awaiting comment from UberSA.
