Inyoni Creek resident celebrates 90th birthday

She counts herself lucky to be a resident of Inyoni Creek and said her neighbours are lovely.

Inyoni Creek retirement village resident Joyce Douglas turned 90 on May 20.

Joyce loves to garden or to immerse herself in a good book. She also enjoys the company of her neighbours

She counts herself lucky to be a resident of Inyoni Creek and said her neighbours are lovely.

“They make it easier to be on your own,” she said.

Born in Johannesburg in 1927, she and her two sisters grew up on a farm near Van Wyksrus in the Free State.

In 1951 she married James Douglas and spent much of her adult life in Sandton, raising their three children.

She has six grandchildren but no great-grandchildren yet.

Once chairperson of the Organic Society, Joyce’s beautiful gardens bear testament to this enduring hobby of hers. She has made her garden a real showpiece since moving to the village 10 years ago.

Joyce’s party was celebrated at Inyoni Creek’s waterfront clubhouse in the company of family and friends.
