UPDATE: Community sends messages of support after patron is shot, killed during restaurant robbery

"Rest in peace young man. Condolences to his family and friends."

Condolences have poured in for the family of a man killed during an Edenvale business robbery.

The robbery, which took place on May 7, led to a customer at an Edenglen restaurant getting shot.
The victim, in his thirties, was shot twice and died on the scene.

Messages of support have been posted on Edenvale social media pages.
Many of them wish the family of the victim well.

Jackie Allen posted, “So very sad. Wrong place, wrong time – proof our lives are mapped out. Sincere condolences to the family. May he rest in peace”

Mel Dunn wrote,“My sympathy and prayers for the family. It’s just so sad. In a public place. How do they live with themselves? No matter where it happens it is so wrong. My son lost a friend who was braaing with his girlfriend and they jumped over the wall and shot him. My son has left the country. We are losing people daily one way or the other. It’s so very sad.”

Sharon-Rob Thomas posted, “Horrible, just so sad and heartbreaking.”

Vicky Samuel wrote, “So tragic, but crime is on the increase everywhere. Condolences to the family.”

Besides sympathy and condolences, social media users also expressed their frustration and anger about crime in general.

Julie Kontoroussis posted, “Oh my word, what terrible news. May he forever R.I.P. May the scum-sucking suspects be caught and have the full extent of the law taken out on them.”

Grant Daniel Henstock wrote, “Really sad, SA has become a nightmare.”

Corinne Leigh posted, “We have to live in fear of these criminals every day and it is getting worse every week. It’s insane.”

Spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, Captain Jean Olckers, said although there has not been an increase in business robberies compared to last year statististics, the SAPS is monitoring the situation.

“The SAPS would like to extend its condolences to the family. It was a sad loss of a brave individual,” said Olckers.
