Queens and Heronbridge outshine the rest at Saheti Festival

Saheti School’s annual rugby sevens and netball festival held on March 4 marked the 24th year of the event.

The tournament featured 28 rugby teams and 34 netball teams, representing 21 schools in the U/16 and open age groups.

Ms Anna Botha, head of marketing at Saheti, said the festival has become known as the curtain raiser of the school winter sports calendar and continues to attract schools from across Gauteng.

The winner for the rugby in both age groups was Queens High School. Queens faced off against Allen Glen High School in both matches.

In both the U/16 and open netball tournaments Heronbridge College won. The U/16s faced of against Saheti while the open team played against Dominican Convent.

Results for the tournament were as follows:

Rugby U/16 finals:

Championship – Queens 24 Allen Glen 19.

Division 2 – Heronbridge 21 Jabulani 7.

Division 3 – Mondeor 19 Sandringham 7.

Rugby open finals:

Championship – Queens 17 Allen Glen 12.

Division 2 – Reddam 7 Saeheti 0.

Division 3 – Highlands North 33 Sandringham 14.

Division 4 – Dainfern 26 Wendywood 17.

Netball U/16 finals:

Championship – Heronbridge 6 Saheti 2.

Division 2 – Queens 5 Wendywood 4.

Division 3 – Crawford Lonehill 6 Sandringham 2.

Netball open finals:

In the championship match Heronbridge placed first with 15 points, Domincan came second with 8 points, third place was awarded to Crawford Lonehill with 9 points and fourth place went to Saheti with 8 points.

Division 2 – Wendywood 12 Allen Glen 6.

Division 3 – Holy Rosary 9 Glenvista 7.

Division 4 – Mondeor 7 Sandringham 1 .

Headmaster of Saheti School, Mr Warwrick Taylor, congratulated all the teams which participated in the festival.
