100 candles for Jessie

I don't feel 100 years old.

Ms Jessie Bensch, a resident of St Anne’s Residence for Aged Women, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

At a party for her on December 20, Ms Bensch enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other guests over a feast of homemade cakes and tea.

“I am so happy to see all my family. I don’t feel 100 years old,” said Ms Bensch during the party.

Mr Sydney Bensch, the son of Ms Bensch, said he was very excited that his mother was turning 100 years old.

“Mentally she is quite sharp, but she does battle with physical activities,” said Sydney.

He remembers that while growing up his mother had always been there for the family and taken very good care of her four children.

Her daughter, Mrs Paddy Green, described her mother as very hardworking, honest and kind.

“My mother was always involved with the family and all our family would congregate at our house,” said Mrs Green.

“Never in my life have I met a mother as dedicated as Jessie,” Mr Basil Green commented.

The matron of St Anne’s, Ms Jean Cokayne, said it was really something special to have one of their residents turn 100 years old.
