A chase between the SAPS and robbers came to a standstill in Longmeadow when the suspects lost control of their vehicle.
Reported shooting in Greenstone
One suspect was killed in a shootout with the SAPS, another wounded and two have been arrested. The injured suspect is under police guard.
According to information received from the scene, the vehicle the suspects were travelling in was reportedly hijacked in Edenvale a week ago. The vehicle was allegedly also involved in a robbery in Roodepoort earlier today.
An alert was circulated for the vehicle and SAPS picked up on the vehicle on the N1.
A chase ensued between the suspects and SAPS which resulted in a shootout between the SAPS and suspects.
The chase progressed to the Edenvale off-ramp from the N3 towards Longmeadow.
The police helicopter was circulating the area by that time and the suspects opened fire at the helicopter and members of the SAPS returned fire.
The suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into the fencing at McCarthy Toyota.
