Cleaning up Edenvale

"They made a big difference on the other side of the bridge closer to First Avenue."

Over the weekend of November 26 and 27, members of the community took time out of their schedules to volunteer in the cleanup of debris and litter surrounding waterways in Edenvale.

The debris and litter was scattered throughout Edenvale after the heavy rains and flooding that occurred in Edenvale on November 9.

According to Ms Rita Johnson, an organiser of the volunteers, the weekend saw fewer volunteers than the previous weekend’s clean-up operation on November 19.

She said on November 26 four paid helpers and some other volunteers came to help.

On November 27 some volunteers, some of which were from a local boxing gym, assisted.

She said the volunteers from the gym stayed until 1.30pm before going home.

“They made a big difference on the other side of the bridge closer to First Avenue,” said Ms Johnson.

Ms Johnson said if anyone would like to donate towards the labourers, there are donation boxes at Jiffy Print and Mamba.

She said donations of strong plastic bags, cold drinks, chips, chocolates for labourers and volunteers are also welcome.
