According to Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, the robbery took place at 3am on December 4, at a motor vehicle dealership in the Greenstone area.

“The suspects overpowered the security guard at the dealership and tied the security guard up,” said Capt Olckers.
“The suspects then proceeded to force their way into the dealership where they took the keys of three motor vehicles parked in the showroom. As the suspects exited the company in three bakkies, the SAPS and a local security company blocked their escape. Shots were fired at the officers. The SAPS and the security company members returned fire and one suspect was fatally wounded,” said Capt Olckers.
The remaining four suspects were arrested.
Capt Olckers said the wounded suspect died at the scene.
The Edenvale SAPS station commander, Colonel Robbie Roberts, said an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was recovered from the scene.
Col Roberts said the combined efforts of the SAPS, EMPD, Edenvale Community Policing Forum, the security company and a quick reaction led to the arrests.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
Capt Olckers said the four suspects will face charges of business robbery.
