Eden Radio is appealing to the community and businesses for support to help keep the community radio station running.

According to Mr Roarke Lessing, the founder of the non profit company, the radio station is primarily focused on community issues as well as the upliftment of local businesses.

“As a community station we need the community’s support,” said Mr Lessing.

He said due to the economic pressure of 2016, it has been difficult to convince companies to spend funds with the radio station.

“Many businesses were battling themselves and this had a negative effect on the radio station,” said Mr Lessing.

“Because of the amazing people in the community we have gotten this far and are able to keep going for now,” he said.

Recently the radio station upgraded its radio transmitter, allowing for a further broadcast range.

“Listenership is growing constantly,” said Mr Lessing

Mr Lessing said currently the radio station is estimated to have 20 000 listeners from Edenvale, Bedfordview, Kempton Park, Boksburg, Benoni, Johannesburg Central and even parts of Rivonia.

Mr Lessing said the radio station, which is heavily involved in the community, provides a mix of talk shows with music to its audience.

“We play good music, host chats with important community members and have a bit of fun while doing it,” said Mr Lessing.

Besides providing entertainment and information to its audience, Eden Radio also promotes local musicians.

“The radio station also does charity work and help other Non Profit Organisations in the community,” said Mr Lessing.

Mr Lessing said the radio gets involved in supporting other organisations in Edenvale, such as charities, the SPCA, SAPS and the Edenvale City Improvement District.
