FLASH FLOODS: Bedfordview worst hit

Bedfordview was one of the worst affected by the flash floods this afternoon.

Some Bedfordview residents and motorists spent the afternoon and evening in the cold.

This as hundreds of men and women watched their cars being swept away by flash floods.

Bedfordview was one of the worst affected areas.

Emergency services confirmed that between the Linksfield off ramp and the Gillooly’s Interchange, which is a two kilometre stretch, over 150 cars were submerged.

Ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys has called on residents to join in and help out duirng a planned clean up at a complex in St Andrew’s.

“If anyone has time and resource tomorrow please grab buckets and squeegies and boots and towels and go to St Andrews Garden Villas, St Christopher Road and help with major cleanup. Every cottage is flooded,” said Clr Humphreys.

Although not all damage has been assessed, Clr Humphreys cornfirmed that a wall had collapsed across Kloof Road and pulled down electrical cable.

She said motorists should watch out for debris in the road.

“St Andrews Villas in Senderwood Portico Place completely flooded. Also has walls down. Debris in road and bricks across the road at the Civin/Chaucer intersection. [I]will try to have it removed asap,” said Clr Humphreys.
