HAPPENING NOW: EMM removes illegal Bedfordview billboard

"It is necessary to send a message that illegal occupation of municipal land to drive income illegally by erecting non-compliance advertising structures should come to and end," Mr Gadebe said.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) is removing an illegal advertising structure erected along the N12 /R24 highway in Bedfordview.

According to EMM spokesperson Mr Themba Gadebe the owner of the advertising structure is unknown.

“It is unsafe and contravenes Regulation 6 of the Sanral Act, Section 8(2) of the EMM Police services by-laws and the National Building Regulation and Building Standards Act,” Mr Gadebe said.

The EMM was recently inundated with media inquiries about numerous illegal signs erected around Ekurhuleni.

“It is necessary to send a message that illegal occupation of municipal land to drive income illegally by erecting non-compliance advertising structures should come to and end,” Mr Gadebe said.
