Dr Lilliana Lulli-Marucchi, Mrs South Africa finalist, visited the Asilo Mondo Magico Nursery School in Bedfordview on August 30.

The visit was aimed at teaching the children about the importance of recycling and looking after the earth.

Dr Lulli-Marucchi said it was important for children to know how important it is to recycle and what they can do.

“With Recycling Week coming up in September, I just wanted to remind them about the benefits of recycling. There is no space for waste. Our landfills are filling up fast and everyone needs to come together and take part in recycling. We need to preserve natural resources for future generations. Recycling reduces the need for raw materials and it also uses less energy, therefore preserving natural resources for the future,” said Dr Lulli-Marucchi.

The Clean-up and Recycle SA Week is from September 12 to 17. It’s aim is to increase awareness by educating the community about the social, environmental and economic benefits of recycling.

Ms Adele Thompson, of Mpact Limited also visited the school. She showed the children what her company does and how they can get involved in recycling. Mpact Limited, among other things, encouraged children to bring items such as paper, milk cartons, egg containers, empty toilet rolls, cereal boxes, newspapers and biscuit boxes to the school so they can put them in the recycling bags that are provided by the company.
