Remembering the fallen

"The investigation has since come to a standstill even after countless information and tip-offs have been followed up on over the years,"

September 4 marks National Commemoration Day for the SAPS.

Spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Captain Jean Olckers, said the day is commemorates members of police who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“I have personally lost many colleagues and friends in my 22 years of service,” said Capt Olckers.

He said one case that particularly stands out for him is that of the late Sergeant Jacobus Latsky who died at the age 35 in 2005.

“Sgt Latsky passed away at the Union Hospital after he was found next to the road on Harris Avenue,” said Capt Olckers.

“The investigation has since come to a standstill even after countless information and tip-offs have been followed up over the years,” he said.

Captain Olckers said the Edenvale SAPS once again appeals to anyone with information in connection to the case to come forward and shed some light on it.

Individuals who have information can contact the SAPS by phoning Capt Olckers on 0824425416 or 0115538618.

“You may stay anonymous,” said Capt Olckers.
