Raising funds through bowling

The tournament focused on promoting not only the country’s amazingly talented disabled bowlers but also the young and up-coming bowls enthusiasts and players of colour.

Bedfordview Country Club hosted the 2016 Accumulo Bowls tournament on August 27.

The aim of the tournament was to raise funds for disability bowls to help them with their future costs.

“The Accumulo Bowls Challenge has grown in stature and prestige since its humble beginnings in 2010. Each year since then the tournament has expanded its vision to not only recognise the incredible skill and passion of bowls enthusiasts across the country but also to broaden public awareness and interest in the game,” said CEO of Accumulo Consulting Mr Phillip Neville.

“The format in this particular tournament is unique, in that it is played as ‘Rinks’ with teams of five players comprised of at least one woman or one man per side. Each player is required to play at least 40 ends over the three days,” said Mr Neville.

The tournament focused on promoting not only the country’s amazingly talented disabled bowlers but also the young and up-and-coming bowls enthusiasts.

“The primary beneficiaries of funds raised throughout the festival were the Pink Drive. An amount of R568 210 was raised for Pink Drive last year. The target for this year has been set at R650 000 with an additional target of R50 000 for disability sports,” said Mr Neville.
