The lights are back

"We hope that the community comes out in full force so that the festival becomes an established event that the community can look forward to every year,"

The Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival will take place on November 5.

The festival will be held on Van Riebeeck Avenue, Second Street and Fourth Street.

At the festival community members can expect a variety of entertainment.

Ms Katy Young, the public relations officer and events coordinator of ECID, said that community members will be able to enjoy festive lights, food stalls, a beer garden, a craft market, a children’s area, dancers, live music, a dress-up competition and brass band performance.

“The objective of the festival is to have fun and bring back a sense of community involvement to Edenvale,” she said.

Ms Young hopes that the festival will lead to an increased community involvement and more community activities within the Edenvale CBD.

“We hope that the community comes out in full force so that the festival becomes an established event that the community can look forward to every year,” said Ms Young.

At last year’s event between 4 000 and 4 500 people attended the festival.

According to Ms Young the festival is also a way to boost local businesses who wish to take part in the event.

“Bring your family, bring your friends, bring everyone. Security will be provided by the ECPF and Mamba and paramedics will also be on standby,” said Ms Young.

She said the festive lights will stay on from the festival until after Christmas.

“The festive lights will be switched on at 7pm in the evenings,” said Ms Young.

In the build-up to the November 5 event, the NEWS will be introducing local artists and groups who are going to be performing at the festival.

One artist or group will be introduced per week.
