With local government elections behind us, voters are now expecting those they voted for on August 3 to deliver on the promises they made.

Re-elected Ward 32 councillor Bongani Nkomo is ready to continue serving the community.

Clr Nkomo took over the reigns as ward councillor about two years ago.

“When I took over, there were many issues that needed to be addressed in the ward and some of those issues are on going but we have made strides in some of them. I have managed to establish some meaningful relationships with the community and that has made my job easier because they tell me what their issues are,” said Clr Nkomo.

Top of his to-do list for Clr Nkomo is to continue his plight of getting traffic calming measures for Greenstone and to find an effective solution for the windscreen washers.

“There are many issues that need attention in the area and the work to try and address them does not stop just because the campaign period has ended. The community has shown that they believe in me as their ward councillor and my job is to make sure that their issues are my priority,”said Clr Nkomo.

He said another top priority is to have a public school in the area as not every can be accommodate or even afford the current schools in the area. “The issue of a school is a very touchy subject for many people in the community because the Greenstone and Modderfontein areas do not have enough schools. It is not fair for parents to have to go to areas like Edenvale to look for a school because those school will always prioritise the children who stay in their vicinity,” he said.

“My hope for the next five years is to have recreational facilities and parks in the area where children can play. There is also a need for a community hall where members of the community can hold meetings and discuss their issues,”said Clr Nkomo.

He said as ward councillor, he knows that it is important for him to be accessible to the community in order for him to know exactly what the issues are.

“I know what the community issues are because I keep in touch with them on various platforms. When I took over as ward councillor, I made it my priority to reduce the level of crime across ward 32. The issue of window washers is an ongoing problem and that is one of the issues I want to address. There are plans I am already working on,”he said.

“I am humbled for being re-elected and I want to thank those who voted for me. I know that not everyone voted for the DA but I want everyone to know that I am ready to serve everyone in the community, regardless of their political affiliation. Service delivery affects everyone and it is what is important,”said Clr Nkomo.
