Misused open manhole raises concerns

Ward 32’s councillor Clr Bongani Nkomo is concerned about a water sump with missing manhole cover and broken shut-off valve.

The water sump is on the corner of Modderfontein and Van Riebeeck roads.

Clr Bongani Nkomo said the water sump is being used by windscreen washers.

“The taxi drivers who park on the road reserve are using the water for washing their taxis. This is very unsafe as someone can fall in due to the missing manhole cover and water is being constantly wasted due to the broken shut-off valve,” said Clr Nkomo.

Despite a request for comment, Johannesburg Water had not responded at the time of going to print.
